Pharmacy Runner/Pharmacy Technician
- The Pharmacy Runner/Pharmacy Technician - Non-Certified supports pharmacy services by stocking, assembling, and distributing medications under the direct supervision of the Pharmacist.
Position Summary
With a Quality, Customer First, and Compassionate approach, The Pharmacy Runner/Pharmacy Technician - Non-Certified will
- * Monitor for text messages for the grab and go, complete the transaction and run the prescription out to the patient’s car.
- * Assist health care providers and patients by greeting them in person and by phone, answering questions and requests, and referring inquiries to the pharmacist.
- * Use appropriate telephone skills and respond to calls that do not require the personal attention of a pharmacist.
- * Complete transactions upon pick-up with consideration of patient’s needs.
- * Advocate for patients when barriers to receiving medication are encountered.
- * Inform patients when delays are encountered with filling their prescription.
- * Demonstrate knowledge of programs offered by Sunrise Community Health.
- * Maintain pharmacy inventory by checking pharmaceutical stock to determine inventory levels. Anticipating needed medications and supplies, placing, and expediting orders, verifying receipt of orders, putting orders away accurately, and removing outdated drugs.
- * Comply with all 340B Policies and Procedures when releasing medications.
- * Completes credit returns and manual return process for Colorado Medicaid DME.
- * Must complete 24 hours of continuing education every 2 years either online or by attending workshops.
Additional Duties of Pharmacy Technicians
- * Assist patients as they drop off prescriptions.
- * Processes prescriptions by entering patient data, insurance, and prescription information into a computer.
- * Organizes medications for pharmacist to dispense by reading medication orders and prescriptions, preparing labels, calculating quantities, assembling intravenous solutions and other pharmaceutical therapies.
- * Inputs prescription/refills and creates/updates patient profiles and third-party setups accurately.
- * Administer vaccine and appropriately document.
Certification Requirement
It is a Sunrise requirement that Pharmacy Technicians be licensed or certified. If an onboarding team member is not yet licensed, they will be required to obtain a one-time provisional license. The team member must achieve full licensure/certification by the following deadlines
Non-Certified Pharmacy Technician Exam
- * It is required that the exam be taken after completing 500 hours of Pharmacy Technician experience and ideally three to six months before the expiration of the 18-month provisional license. The exam must be taken no later than 18 months from the date of hire. Sunrise will cover the cost of the first exam attempt.
Subsequent Exam Attempts
- * If the first attempt is unsuccessful, the second and third attempts may be taken at the staff member’s own expense.
- * If needed, a fourth attempt may be taken no sooner than six months after the third attempt, and this expense will also be the responsibility of the staff member.
Failure to Pass by Provisional Expiration
- * If the staff member does not successfully pass the exam before the 18-month provisional license expires, they will no longer be eligible to perform Non-Certified Pharmacy Technician duties.
- * At that time, the staff member may submit an application for any open positions at Sunrise and will be considered in the same manner as all other qualified candidates.
Minimum Qualifications
- Pharmacy Runner
- * Bilingual English/Spanish Preferred.
- Pharmacy Technician
- * High School Diploma / GED.
- * Associate degree in Pharmaceutical Technology preferred.
- * 1-2 years’ experience as a Pharmacy Technician, or equivalent combination, education, and experience.
- * Bilingual English/Spanish Preferred.
